23 Things Planning - Essential Tools

Rollyo
Goodreads
slide share
mibbit
IRC
ning group
facebook group
present bigger picture with tools to make it possible
linkedin

Vote for your top 13 tools!

Unique Features of Kansas project
catch up week
mentoring
many of these tools will span multiple areas
learn to add content
learn to create a profile & maintain it
group tools with a common purpose
library context - "I could use this in my library for..."
tools are means to an end
start on the personal level
could use the blog to share ideas for uses in library
building a PLN (personal learning network?)
a week on keeping up with blogs
Start with facebook and RSS feeds
help with info overload
move from existing content consumption to creating content for others to consume
show them the Common Craft video for example
social bookmarking is a great tool for both libraries and personal use
end with uploading videos and such
aggregate all of the participants blogs into a collected RSS
times where people can drop "in" online and talk to a mentor
Here's what's out there... here's how to keep up & consume it efficiently - here's how to start adding your own voice to the conversation.
everybody has a small stake and no one has to do it all - share the mentoring and unit creation
with Jing, it's SO easy to add content
mentors
run 2 tiers simultaneously - advanced 2.0 23 things
use wimba for mentoring and getting together
program that has a stepped system where you can get in at any point
those who are experts on the tools of the week would be the mentors
social bookmarking seems like a good potential place to start
start with a blog - because documenting your progress could be quite fun and it's personal and professional
use wordpress.com instead of blogger
have groups set up and each group has a mentor

Branding 23 Things
23 Twisters
things to shake up your online life"
a whirlwind of activites
could have a drawing for a free twister game
whirlwind tour through online life
funnel of fun
dusting up enthusiasm and dusting off our minds
23 kansas twists
new twists
tornadoes are fierce, plus shake it up
twister game - make the things be the spots on a twister board
http://www.partywerks.com/inflatables/Twister/Twister.JPG, http://www.feelingretro.com/toys/images/twister.jpg
23 colorful dots in a funnel shape
it even looks like a game!
I like the play on words "a Kansas Twister" and then have it be referring to the game, not the nasty weather
sunflowers or no sunflowers - that is the question
no KAN prefex allowed
fall twist
twist and shout

Other notes:
Liz_Rea says, "and I am happy to host the project site on the KLOW server
Time frame - fall - October - have it done before the holidays or finished for the first group, but 2nd and 3rd level continue with holiday break"

Next steps:
choose a time frame
marketing
define scope
define audience
assign tasks
criteria
generate online learning materials
committees?
work on the wiki a bit? - together
divide and conquer?
then schedule wimba meeting if needed

Erin is taking the ideas to the graphic illustrator at her library to get branding ideas

Now check out the discussion threads...

Janelle_Jarboe 2010 KLA Conference - Lightning Round Session(s)? 0 Oct 5 2009, 2:12 PM EDT by Janelle_Jarboe
Thread started: Oct 5 2009, 2:12 PM EDT  Watch
For our SWKLS Tech Day our 3 techies (Charlene McGuire, Steve Andrews, and me) along with Heather Braum and Brenda Hough from NEKLS showcased 30 Tech Tips in 30 Minutes. After the session Cindi Hickey and I were chatting over email about it and thought it might be a fun session to have at the 2010 KLA Conference. But maybe have 20 tech tips in an hour more like the lightning rounds were at the Unconference and NEKLS Tech Day? We were thinking of having 20 different people doing 3 minute presos on a favorite technology or a tech tip. Anyone interested in participating in this? If so we'll start doing more planning.
