We could discuss: eReaders, QR codes, Mobile sites and Cloud computing in libraries.
NEKLS can also bring our Toy Box full of gadgets and our
notes from the eBook summit, HandHeld librarian webinars, Sue Polanka
webinar and upcoming Jason Griffey eBook webinar.

I am a big fan of Advocacy. A topic I am sure the school librarians would appreciate, but also of value to all of us. Obviously, bringing in the technology and social networking angle of advocacy would be something I would love to hear from others about. Do you find this valuable?

I think QR codes are a very timely topic to discuss. Was glad to see them used so extensively at SxSW; hopefully they will go mainstream soon! Libraries can make great use of them in many ways. Do you find this valuable?

Ooops created my own thread instead of adding on here -- book discussions on In Pursuit of Elegance: Why the Best Ideas Have Something Missing (Matthew Mays) and The Atlas of New Librarianship (R. David Lankes) -- see my thread on book discussions for more information.

Advocacy and QR Codes great topic timely topics as well.

Readers' Advisory, Programming. Two other areas we could discuss. I love talking about areas of the library and how technology can make them even better -- not just discussing new technology for technology's sake.

QR codes are starting to mushroom around Manhattan. Varney's bookstore in Aggieville has a very conspicuous one on the outside of their building near the entrance. Businesses (e.g., Claflin Books) are putting them on business cards, and some realtors are using them on for sale signs. We (Hale) will be experimenting with them soon as well. I'd love to have a session about QR Codes and Augmented Reality to see what ideas we have for enhancing the physical world with the digital and vice versa.

I like all the ideas posted thus far. Some additional ones: (1) tools for delivering personalized library services; (2) strategies for helping patrons connect to each other via library spaces (virtual or physical); (3) tools and strategies for gathering feedback and ideas from patrons/ communities. I'd love an eBook session. Happy to moderate if someone's needed. I can bring all our eReaders too. Do you find this valuable?

NEKLS also has eReaders to bring and share. We have an entire toybox of gadgetry now that travels. I found QR codes at Best Buy the other day on product sheets and looked up the information about them that way on my phone.

This a link (http://goo.gl/ofhNo -- don't know how to make it live :( ) to a brainstorm of ideas we had at NEKLS during the handheld librarian online summit back in February for using QR Codes in libraries. The possibilities are endless!

Let's discuss how academic librarians are involved in First Year Experience programs. Washburn will be piloting a program Fall 2011. I understand several other KS universities may also have pilots in the works. What part does information literacy instruction play in these FYEs? Do you find this valuable?

I'd like to talk about patron expectations and the library experience:

"The Broken Reference Interview; or, 'Open Your Google!'"

Technology has drastically changed the way people interact with information. Doctors complain of patients who have self-diagnosed with WebMD, which some call "cyberchondria." Librarians encounter a variation on this phenomena, where patrons devalue purchased access to information in databases and similar in favor of familiar, free solutions like a Google search. What should libraries and librarians do in these situations?
